Elephant Yam Fry
I love yams, for me they taste something like a meat. Have you tried my yam chops, they are addictive. I recently discovered that i have not posted as many yam recipes in this blog. Because we usually have it atleast once a week. There are so many yam lovers out in our house.
Ingredients for Elephant Yam Fry
- Elephant Yam / Senaikizhangu - ¼ kg peeled and sliced
- Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi - ½ tsp
- Tamarind Pulp - 1 tbsp ( Click here for recipe )
- Salt to taste
- Oil - 3 tbsp for pan frying
- Curry leaves - few springs
For Masala:
- Chilli powder - 2 tsp
- Pepper powder - ½ tsp
- Turmeric powder / Manjal podi - ½ tsp
- Coriander powder / Malli podi - 1 tsp
- Garam masala powder - 1 tsp
- Gram Flour / Kadalai Mavu / Besan - 2 tbsp
- Rice Flour / Arisi Mavu - 1 tbsp
Water as needed - Salt to taste

This recipe is so easy to make, but it taste so yummy. This is a simple way of frying yam, i have few variations of it, which i will post very soon.
How to Make Elephant Yam Fry
- Take a sauce pan and add in the yam pieces. Cover with water.
- Add in salt, turmeric powder and tamarind pulp.
- Bring this to a boil and cook for 15 mins till the yam is cooked. Drain it and set aside.
- Take all the ingredients for the masala in a bowl. Add water and make into a thickish paste.
- Take the yam pieces and coat in the masala on both sides.
- Heat oil in a frying pan, drop the yam pieces in oil and fry till golden on both sides.
- Drain them in a plate.
- Now in the remaining oil, throw the curry leaves and fry till crispy. Remove them and toss with the yam.
- Serve with any curry and rice.

Ingredients
- ¼ kg Elephant Yam / Senaikizhangu peeled and sliced

Your yam fry looks very crispy & flavourful. Even i make it the same way. I had a telugu Collegue who used to bring this for lunch & she shared this family recipe with me. I can imagine the taste & flavor of your yam fry.
