I’ll admit that I’ve only been drinking Dalgona Coffee for about a year (give or take). A friend of mine told me about it and showed me how to make it. A year later and I’ve made it countless times!

Things to know before you make or try this Dalgona Coffee recipe:

  1. The “coffee” part of the drink is whipped, which is what makes this drink special. I personally think it’s almost like a dessert and I enjoy it both in the morning or as a “treat” during the day.
  2. The whipped coffee is strong. Very strong. Which I happen to like. But even if you don’t, the milk or cream portion balances it out nicely. You can always add more of one or the other to make it just how you like it.
  3. It’s incredibly simple to make. Yes, more effort than a regular cup of joe. But it’s still very easy and only takes a few minutes of whipping time.
  4. This Dalgona coffee recipe uses just 4 ingredients: instant coffee, hot water, granulated sugar, and milk or cream. All things you probably keep in the fridge and pantry already!
  5. The “recipe” is easy to remember: 2+2+2 each of instant coffee, hot water, and sugar (in tablespoons). But really, as long as you’re using equal parts of each, the recipe will work. For example, sometimes I’ll do 3+3+3 and adjust the milk or cream to how I prefer it.
  6. Try swapping brown sugar for the white – it adds a much deeper flavor that I love!

How can I turn this Dalgona Coffee recipe into a keto version?

It’s so simple to make this recipe keto! I eat keto the vast majority of the time so that’s usually the way I drink mine. For the granulated sugar, just swap it out for Swerve (or any other granulated erythritol, monk fruit sweetener, etc.) Then use heavy cream in place of the milk. Add a little water if it’s too rich for your tastes.

What to use for whipping the coffee?

A hand mixer is the fastest but I often don’t want to pull mine out just for a quick coffee. You can use a regular whisk which also works fine, if a bit more work. What I personally use is this egg beater. Yes, it works great for eggs, but it has so many other uses! I’ve used it for everything from cake batter to dips to my Keto Chow. I’ve had it for quite a few years now and it still works great.

Dalgona Coffee (Whipped Coffee)

Yield: 1-2 servings

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 5 minutes

Milk or cream is topped with whipped and sweetened instant coffee for the perfect wake-up drink or an afternoon treat!

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp instant coffee
  • 2 tbsp hot water
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 cup whole milk or heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Place the coffee, hot water, and sugar in a small dish. Using a hand mixer, egg beater or whisk, beat or whisk the mixture until it's thick and frothy.
  2. Pour the milk into a glass (with ice if you prefer). Spoon the whipped coffee mixture over the milk. Stir to blend.

Notes

Almond or soy milk, etc. will also work fine.

For Keto: Use heavy cream for the dairy. Use any granulated keto-friendly sweetener you prefer (I like Swerve).
